A Table for Two: Growing Up and Holding On

This recent coffeehouse visit was a special one. I got to spend the day with my firstborn, Desmond. What can I say about Desmond? He's so reserved with a nonchalant expression, but his laughter makes my heart smile, especially since he doesn't do it often. The teenage years, gotta love them right? Or not...🤣.

We took this trip on one of his early release days. We do this every now and then. I always say yes when he asks, because I love our time together as mother and son. The older he gets, the harder it becomes, so I take advantage of every opportunity.

During these outings, I ask him how his day went and anything on his mind he'd like to discuss. Of course, me asking him these things wouldn't warrant much of a response and I don't push it. I open the door and allow him to walk in when he's ready to talk, and he usually does.

This talk was about getting ready for upcoming tests, such as the SAT and ACT and colleges he's thinking of applying too. He's also focused on maintaining his grades and wanting to qualify for as many scholarships as possible.

On this day, we decided to visit New Penny Cafe on his early release day. A new spot we discovered in Avondale, AZ. I had their Strawberry Yogurt Smoothie and Desmond tried their 24Karat Smoothie along with the Big Boy Bagel Sandwich

The New Penny Café in Avondale, AZ, offers a warm and inviting ambiance that blends modern charm with a strong sense of community. Natural light floods the space through large windows, illuminating cozy lounge areas that encourage guests to relax and linger. The café also features a boutique section showcasing handcrafted goods from local artisans, adding a unique and personal touch to the environment,

Whether you're stopping by for a quick coffee or settling in for a leisurely brunch, the atmosphere is designed to make you feel at home. The combination of friendly service and thoughtfully curated spaces makes it a delightful spot for both social gatherings and quiet moments.

Time with Desmond is something I never take for granted. As he steps further into this next chapter of life, I’m deeply aware that these moments will become fewer and farther between. So when they come, I capture them — in photos, in memory, and in my heart — holding on and savoring every bit.

The Convo at Deseo

I found this cute coffee shop by accident. I work as a case manager and needed to meet with a client nearby. Considering that I don't know much about coffee shops and I wasn't familiar with the location, I did a quick Google search for local coffee shops. Of course,  Starbucks popped up, since there is one on every corner, I figured that would be a quick and easy location for us to meet.  On my way to Starbucks, I had to take a detour due to construction, which was such an inconvenience and pushed my appointment behind a bit. I pulled into a parking lot to get my barrings and it just so happened to be the parking lot of Deseo Coffee Shack . Once I saw how close this was to my client, I knew this would be a better choice and she agreed.  Once we went inside, it was packed, which we both weren't expecting because from the outside it appeared empty. It's such a cute and quaint space and their menu options were quite intriguing.  To give a little background on Da...
